“American Glitch” by Photographers Andrea Orejarena and Caleb Stein

Brooklyn-based photographers Andrea Orejarena and Caleb Stein discover the diminishing line between truth and fiction of their ongoing collaborative undertaking, “American Glitch.” Responding to the present period of knowledge overload—outlined by screens, conspiracy theories, and the arrival of the Metaverse—the pair set out searching for visible allegories that counsel we live in a simulation. After scouring the web for proof of those “glitches” within the panorama and confirming their existence through Google Earth, they took to the highway in a collection of journeys to find the scenes in actual life. 

Drawing from social media and reddit threads the place folks submit “proof of glitches in actual life,” movies like The Matrix and The Truman Present, and authorities declassified paperwork, “American Glitch” brings collectively massive format images and wallpaper grids of discovered glitches sourced from the web. In line with Orejarena and Stein, “this multifaceted method to set up displays our continued curiosity throughout completely different our bodies of labor in opening up a variety of conceptions of authorship and understanding how the self pertains to, and navigates, collective constructions.”
